COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Men's Golf team were back in action close to home for the Buckeye Classic hosted by Ohio State University on April 11-12 at the Columbus Country Club. The Bobcats finished in 6th place with an overall score of 875 (+11), while junior
Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) placed 22nd.
Ohio State won the event, followed by Michigan (-17), Miami (OH) (-15) in third, Kent State (-9) in fourth and Eastern Kentucky (-1) in fifth.
As a team, Ohio turned in a steady performance throughout the tournament, opening with a 292 in the first round, matching that score again in the second, and closing out Saturday with yet another 292. T
On the individual side, Kates led the way for the Bobcats. He opened with rounds of 71 and 77 on day one, then delivered a strong finish with a final-round 70. His total score of 218 (+2) earned him a six-way tie for 22nd place, capping off a solid individual performance.
Next in line was junior
Nathaniel Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario), who finished in a four-way tie for 30th. He started the tournament with rounds of 73 and 75, and followed up with a final-round 72. His steady play resulted in an overall score of 220 (+4).
Senior
Sam Hogan (Burlington, Ontario) wasn't far behind. He posted rounds of 74, 72, and 75 to finish with a total score of 221 (+5), placing him in an eight-way tie for 34th. Junior
Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) also contributed to the team effort, finishing in a tie for 47th. He shot a 74 and a low round of 72 on day one, followed by a 77 on the final day for a combined score of 223 (+7).
Rounding out the team lineup was senior
Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio), who tied for 53rd overall. He began the tournament with a 78, responded with a strong 72 in the second round, and closed with a 75 to bring his total to 225 (+9).
Competing as an individual, junior
Jack O'Donnell (Powell, Ohio) finished 72nd overall. He carded rounds of 78, 79, and 76 for a seventeen-over-par total of 233.
The Bobcats will return to competition on April 14 at the Red Bird Shootout. The one-day event will be hosted by Ball State University at Delaware Country Club in Muncie, Ind.
