TRENTON, NJ - Ohio Wrestling concluded the 2025 Mid-American Conference Championships this afternoon (Mar. 8), with
Garrett Thompson securing an individual championship title. Thompson was also named the Most Outstanding Wrestler, while
Jordan Greer finished second in the heavyweight division. Both wrestlers have earned return trips to the NCAA Championships.
As a team, the Bobcats placed sixth with 62.0 points. Lock Haven took home the team title, edging out Central Michigan and Edinboro with 121.5 points.Â
Redshirt junior
Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) captured his first MAC Championship title with a dominant 14-0 shutout victory over Alex Cramer (Central Michigan). Thompson delivered four outstanding performances over the past two days to secure the 174-pound championship, earning a return trip to the NCAA Championships for the second time in his career.
Also securing a trip to Philadelphia is heavyweight
Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio). Greer showcased his dominance on day one with a decision win in the quarterfinals, followed by an 8-0 shutout major decision in the semifinals. However, he fell to Gavin Hoffman (Lock Haven) in the finals by an 8-3 decision. Both wrestlers gave their all in the final matchup, leaving everything on the mat. Greer's strong performance earned him a runner-up finish and a spot at the NCAA Championships.
At 149 pounds, redshirt sophomore
Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) finished fifth overall in the tournament. After falling to Ryan Michaels (Edinboro) in a 5-2 decision, Raike bounced back in the fifth-place match, defeating Lucas Kapusta (Lock Haven) with a 4-1 decision.
Another outstanding performance came from redshirt freshman
Jeremy Olszko (Northfield, Ohio) in the 184-pound class. Olszko secured an 8-2 decision over Deron Pulliam (SIU Edwardsville) in the third consolation round before advancing to the consolation semifinals, where he fell to Malachi DuVall (George Mason) by fall in the second period at 3:43. He rebounded in the fifth-place match, defeating Marcus Petite (Buffalo) with a 4-1 decision to claim the fifth-place title.
While Thompson and Greer have punched their tickets to Philadelphia their teammates will have to wait until Wednesday (Mar. 12) at 8:00 p.m. ET for the NCAA's Selection Show. There will be 60 at large bids given out during the selection show across the ten weight classes.
