TRENTON, NJ - Ohio Wrestling wrapped up their first day at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Wrestling Championships this afternoon (Mar. 7). The Bobcats had three wrestlers advance to the semifinals, with top seeds
Jordan Greer and
Garrett Thompson advancing to their division Championships.
After the first day of competition, the Bobcats are in fifth place with 50.5 points. The Bobcats are 47.5 points back of Central Michigan in first place.
It was a strong start to the Conference Tournament for redshirt senior Jordan Greer (Avon, Ohio), who has advanced to the heavyweight finals tomorrow afternoon (March 8). As the top seed in his division, Greer received a bye in the first championship round and began his tournament run in the quarterfinals with a 5-1 decision victory over Aden Roe (Edinboro). He then moved on to the semifinals, where he delivered an impressive 8-0 major decision win against James Blackman (George Mason), showcasing his determination to make an impact at this tournament.
Fellow Bobcat Garrett Thompson (Murrysville, Pa.) also had a stellar opening day at the tournament, securing three dominant wins to advance to the 174-pound championship match tomorrow afternoon (March 8). Thompson kicked off his run in the first championship round against Nick Foster (Bloomsburg), earning a victory by fall in the first period at 2:41. In the quarterfinals, he continued to showcase his strength in the division, defeating Ronald Dimmerling with a technical fall in the second period, 17-1 at 3:28. Thompson capped off the day with a commanding 13-2 major decision over Michael Wilson (Rider) in the semifinals, punching his ticket to the finals.
Redshirt sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W.Va.) began the day with a bye in the first championship round of the 149-pound class. In his quarterfinal matchup against Kaden Cassidy (George Mason), Raike dominated with a fall in the second period at 3:47, securing his spot in the semifinals. However, he fell to Mason Shrader (Central Michigan) in a hard-fought 6-4 decision. Raike will now compete in the third consolation round tomorrow (March 8), aiming to secure a spot on the podium with a third-place finish.
Redshirt freshman Kaden Jett (Broadview Heights, Ohio) narrowly missed a spot in the semifinals after a strong start in the 141-pound class. He opened with a hard-fought 1-0 decision over Ethan Mitchell (Cleveland State) but fell in the quarterfinals to Andrew Austin (Central Michigan) in a 7-1 decision.
Redshirt senior TJ England (South Hampton, Pa.) was also one win away from a semifinal berth. He started strong with a dominant 10-0 major decision over Major Lewis (Bloomsburg) but was defeated by Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) via a 21-6 technical fall. However, England rebounded with a solid 4-1 decision over Troy Guerra (Buffalo) in the second consolation round, keeping his tournament run alive.
After falling in his first match to Marcus Petite (Buffalo) in the 184-pound quarterfinals via a 5-2 sudden victory, No. 5 seed redshirt freshman Jeremy Olszko (Northfield, Ohio) bounced back in the second consolation round with a 7-3 decision over Adrien Cramer (Central Michigan), keeping his tournament hopes alive.
Tomorrow's schedule starts with the consolation quarterfinals at 11:30 a.m with the consolation semifinals set to start at 1:00 p.m. The Championship Finals will kick off at 3:00 p.m. with the 3rd, and 5th, place bouts starting shortly after.
