PAW PRINTS: The Week Ahead in Ohio Athletics

ATHENS, Ohio –The calendar has turned to April and the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom! Track and Field returns to Athens, while softball and baseball both have midweek games at home. Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.

TRACK AND FIELD

Ohio track and field team returns to Athens for the first of three home meets this year starting on Friday, April 4 with the 2025 Cherry Blossom Invite. The one-day event is set to begin at 11 a.m. at Goldsberry Tracks. The event will begin streaming on ESPN+ starting at 4 p.m. ET through the event of the meet and will include the Bobcats' Senior Day ceremony. 

The Bobcats are coming off a weekend in Raleigh, N.C. for the 2025 Raleigh Relays hosted by NC State. Senior Taja Booker (Simpsonville, S.C.) earned a PR in the women's 200m. Booker placed 19th overall with a personal-best time of 24.16. Sophomore Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) finished 17th in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.40 meters (11-1.75), while sophomore  Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) led the Bobcats in the 800m with a PR of 2:10.52 and finished in 52nd place.

WOMEN'S GOLF

The Ohio women's gold team is back in action March 31-April 2 with the 2025 Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate. The three-day event is hosted at the Caledonia Golf & Fish Club in Pawley's Island, S.C. The week begins on Monday, March 31 with 18 holes, followed by 18 more on Tuesday, April 1 before concluding on Tuesday, April 2 with the final 18 holes.   

Competing at this year's event are Fairleigh Dickinson, Akron, UNC Asheville, Evansville, Stonehill, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, MTSU, Towson, Ohio, USC Upstate, Morehead State, Mount St. Mary's, Stephen F. Austin and Winthrop. 

Competing for the Bobcats this week are sophomore Zoe Luebbers, senior Sydney Longstreth, sophomore Morgan Rodgers, junior MacKenzie McRee and sophomore Anna Coccia

The Bobcats competed March 10-11 at the 2025 Butler Invitational, where the Bobcats recorded an overall score of 639 (+63), with Luebbers tying for seventh place.

The Ohio softball team (22-9, 5-1 MAC) is back in action for more five more MAC matchups this week starting on Tuesday, April 1 when the Bobcats host Kent State (7-23, 0-6 MAC) for a doubleheader in Athens starting at 1 p.m. ET at the Ohio Softball Field. Ohio then heads to Akron, Ohio for a three-game series with Akron (16-17, 3-5 MAC) April 5-6. The series begins on Saturday, April 5 with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. at Lee R. Jackson Field, before concluding the weekend on Sunday, April 6 at 12 p.m. All five games will be seen on ESPN+. 

Ohio is coming off a 2-1 week that saw the Bobcats win the road series at Northern Illinois. Overall, freshman Sydney Young hit .667 with four hits, one double and scored two runs, while recording a .833 slugging percentage, while redshirt junior Skipp Miller record a 0.78 ERA in two appearances, picking up one win with a compere game, while walking three and striking out four in nine innings of work. 

NIU enters the series with a 7-23 overall record and an 0-6 mark in MAC play and are coming off being swept by both Miami and BGSU to open MAC play, before falling to Robert Morris last Tuesday in Kent. Akron is currently 16-17 overall with a 3-5 conference record. The Zips are coming off a series win at Toledo this past weekend and will host Bowling Green on Tuesday before welcoming the Bobcats.

The Ohio baseball team (7-19, 3-9 MAC) is back in action this week starting on Tuesday, April 1 when the Bobcats host Morehead State (9-16) First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET inside Bob Wren Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then heads to DeKalb, Ill. for a three-game series against Northern Illinois (9-17, 1-8 MAC). The series begins on Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. ET, with game two set for Saturday, April 5 at 3 p.m. ET. The series concludes on Sunday, April 6 at 2 p.m. ET. All three games are set to take place at Ralph McKinzie Field at Walt and Janice Owens Park and will be streamed on NIU's athletics website. 

Ohio is coming off a a 1-3 week that saw the Bobcats pick up a 4-3 win over Eastern Michigan at home on Friday. Sophomore Jack Geiser (Medina, Ohio) picked up the win in that game, his first of the season, for his work in the eighth and ninth innings. Geiser struck out two and allowed one run on three hits during his outing.

Morehead State is currently 9-16 overall and is coming off a series loss against Eastern Illinois this past weekend. Ohio and Morehead State met a few weeks ago with the Bobcats picking up the road victory. NIU is currently 9-17 overall with a 1-8 mark in MAC play. The Huskies are coming off a series loss against Butler last weekend and will face off with Purdue on the road on Tuesday before hosting the Bobcats. 

MEN'S GOLF

The Ohio men's golf team is back in action April 5-6 at the 2025 Testudo Cup hosted by Maryland at the P.B. Dye GC in Ijamsville, Md. The event begins on Saturday, April 5 with 36 holes, before concluding on Sunday, April 6 with the final 18 holes. 

Competing at this year's event are Maryland, Fairleigh Dickinson, Binghamptopn, Virginia Tech, Mount St. Mary's, Towson, William and Mary, Colgate, George Mason, Saint Francis, Manhattan, Delaware, Ohio and Bucknell. 

The Bobcats last took the course March 24-26 at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate in Pittsburg, Penn., where the Bobcats placed sixth.
