SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The Ohio Men's Golf team were back on the road for Spring Break at the Ross Collegiate Classic hosted by George Mason on Mar. 10-11 at the Mid Pines Club. The Bobcats finished in 18th place with an overall score of 914 (+50), while junior
Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) placed 46th.
Chattanooga won the event, followed by George Mason (-2), Seton Hall (+3) and Loyola Maryland (+4).
As a team, Ohio opened the first round with a 301, and concluded the second round with a 312. Closing out the tournament, the Bobcats shot a 301.
Individually, Kates led the Bobcats recording rounds of 76 and 75 on day one, before finishing Tuesday with a 72 for a total tournament score of 223 (+7) and a four-way tie for 46th-place finish.
Junior
Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) was next, in a tie for 63rd. Trafford shot a 78 and with a low round of 75 on day one, and a 78 on day two for a total of 228 (+12). Junior Nathan Gray Lamont (Guelph, Ontario) finished closely behind with scores of 72, 78, and 79 in the final round for an overall total of 229 (+13), placing him in a tie for 66th.
Senior
Sam Hogan (Burlington, Ontario)
finished tied for 82nd. Hogan opened the tournament with a 78, before shooting the second-round score of 81. He then finished the tournament with a 75, recording a total tournament score of 234 (+18). Junior
Sheil Iyer (Dublin, Ohio) placed 93rd (79+81+79=239) and finished 23-over.
The Bobcats will be back in action Mar. 24-26 at the Sweetens Cove Intercollegiate. The three-day event is hosted by Miami (OH) at the Sweetens Cove Golf Club in Pittsburg, Tenn.
