YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio women's track & field team conclude the first day of competition at the MAC Indoor Championships with five podium finishes and three finals qualifiers on Friday, Feb. 28.
Ohio dominated the women's 5,000 meters with three Bobcats earning a spot in the top eight finishers. Junior
Allie Martin (Kingwood, W. Va.) medaled in the event with a third-place time of 16:43.11. Senior
Kelsi Harris (Liberty Township, Ohio) followed behind with a fourth-place time of 16:48.14. Junior
Leila Boussedra (Worthington, Ohio) was Ohio's third podium finisher with a sixth-place time of 16:53.07.
Ohio earned its second medal of the day in the women's distance medley relay. The relay team comprised of freshman
Kaitlyn Stewart (Floyd Knobs, Ind.), sophomore
Elinor Shuttleworth (Beavercreek, Ohio), junior
Sara Doughman (South Lebanon, Ohio) and sophomore
Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) took home third place in the event with a time of 11:50.11.
Sophomore
Emilee Baumann (Powell, Ohio) represented Ohio in the field events. Baumann placed sixth in the women's pole vault with PR of 3.68 meters (12-0.75).
Stewart and Greenwell also found success in the women's 800m preliminaries. Both athletes qualified for the finals. Stewart was an automatic qualifier after she placed second in heat with a time of 2:12.91. Greenwell placed third in her heat, but her PR of 2:11.07 was fast enough to earn her spot in the finals.
Junior
Alyssa Mason (Dublin, Ohio) earned herself a spot in the finals of the women's mile. In the preliminary round, Mason placed fifth with a time of 4:54.94.
Sophomore
Gracie Smith (Grove City, Ohio) competed in the pentathlon for Ohio. Smith finished in 11
th place with a personal-best score of 3,036 points.
The Bobcats will be back in action for day two of the MAC Indoor Championships on Saturday, March 1.
