MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. –
The Ohio softball team (7-4) opened play at the 2025 Low Country Classic hosted by College of Charleston on Friday (Feb. 21). The Bobcats swept the day, defeating Dartmouth (0-6), 1-0 in eight innings, in game one, before defeating Rhode Island (0-1), 8-0 in five innings in game two.

GAME ONE: Ohio 1, Dartmouth 0 (8 Innings)
Overall, Ohio scored one run on four hits and had one error, while Dartmouth did not score a run on four hits and did not commit and error.

Individually, senior CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) had one hit and the game-winning RBI, while junior Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio), junior Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio) and freshman Abby Kennelly (Waterville, Ohio) all had a hit for the Bobcats, while junior Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) scored the go-ahead run for the Bobcats.

In the circle, freshman Anna Wise (Broadview Heights, Ohio) got the start, earning her first career win, pitching eight shutout innings, allowing no runs on four hits and did not walk a batter, while striking out four.

Ohio looked to get on the board in the top of the first inning, with senior Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) reaching on a two-out walk. However, the Bobcats were unable to capitalize, sending the game to the bottom of the inning, scoreless. After the Bobcats stranded two runners in the top of the second, Dartmouth got their first baserunner in the bottom of the third, however, the Ohio defense held them off the board, sending the game to the fourth inning still tied at 0-0.

After both defenses held runs off the board over the next three innings, Dartmouth looked to take the lead in the bottom of the seventh, with runners reaching first and second with no outs. After both runners advanced on a ground out, Wise was able to force back-to-back ground outs to send the threat and send the game to the eighth innings tied at 0-0.

Ohio struck in the top of the eighth inning with an RBI single from Keidel, putting the Bobcats up 1-0 headed to the bottom of the frame.

Dartmouth threatened in the bottom of the inning, with runners reaching second and third with no outs. However, wise was able to get back-to-back strikeouts and a foul out to end the threat and secure the Ohio 1-0 victory.

GAME TWO: Ohio 8, Rhode Island 0 (5 Innings)
Overall, Ohio scored eight runs on nine hits and no errors, while Rhode Island was unable to score on one hit and one error.

Individually, sophomore Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) went 2-for-2 with one walk, scoring twice while sophomore Brenna Farmer (Blanchard, Ohio) finished the game 2-for-3 with one RBI.

In the circle, redshirt junior Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching five scoreless innings. In 17 batters faced, Miller retired six, allowing just one walk and one hit.

The Bobcats struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring on an RBI single from Farmer, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead headed into the bottom of the frame.

After Rhode Island stranded two runners in the bottom of the second, Ohio's bats came alive in the top of the second. After a double from senior Maddie Wilcox (Grove City, Ohio) and a single from Kennelly helped load the bases with no outs, Keidel drove in the Bobcats second run on a ground out. After a Rhode Island error scored three runs, the Bobcats added on one more with an RBI single from Hoffner, putting Ohio up 6-0 after two innings.

After two scoreless innings, sophomore Izzie Wilson (Delaware, Ohio) led off the top of the fifth with a single to left field, quickly advancing third off a single by sophomore Emily Caron (Cumming, Ga.) and a wild pitch. With Wilson in scoring position, Ohio easily took a 7-0 lead when Keidel singled to center field, advancing Kennelly to third. The next at-bat, Kennelly scored on a ground out, increasing Ohio's lead to 8-0.

Miller made quick work of Rhode Island's offense, striking out the first of three batters faced in the bottom of the inning. The next two batters faced similar fates, with Miller drawing a pop out and a ground out to solidify Ohio's 8-0 victory.
