Ohio Softball Wraps Up Bear Down Fiesta

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Ohio softball team (5-4) wrapped up the 2025 Bear Down Fiesta on Sunday morning (Feb. 16), falling to Cal State Fullerton (7-2), 17-1 in five innings, inside Hillenbrand Stadium. 

Overall, Ohio scored one run on four hits a committed six errors, while Cal State Fullerton scored 17 runs on 15 hits and did not commit an error. 

Individually, junior Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio), freshman Jordyn Wycuff (Pataskala, Ohio), freshman Alexis Book (Chillicothe, Ohio) and sophomore Emily Caron (Cumming, Ga.) all had one hit. Senior Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) drew two walks and had one RBI, while senior CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) scored Ohio's lone run.

In the circle, sophomore Mikie Lieving (New Haven, W. Va.) got the start, allowing five runs on four hits. Redshirt junior Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) pitched one inning, allowing six runs on six hits and freshman Anna Wise (Broadview Heights, Ohio) pitched 1.2 innings and did not allow a run or a hit. Junior Keegan Moore (South Point, Ohio) entered to pitch two innings, allowing six runs, one earned, on five hits and striking out two. 

The Titans struck first in the top of the first inning, scoring seven runs on six hits and three errors to take a 7-0 lead into the bottom of the first. After Cal State Fullerton took an 11-0 lead into the bottom of the second, Ohio threatened to get on the board in the bottom of the inning. After Hoffner walked and stole second, junior Colleen Bare (Pickerington, Ohio) also drew and walk and advanced to second on a single from Book. However, the Bobcats would hit into a double play, sending the game to the third still trailing, 11-0. 

The Bobcats got on the board in the bottom of the third when Hoffner drew a one-out bases-loaded walk to score Keidel, cutting the deficit to 11-1 headed into the fourth inning. After a scoreless fourth from both teams, the Titans added on in the top of the fifth, scoring six runs on five hits and two errors to send the game to the bottom of the fifth with Ohio still trailing. 

Ohio looked to extend the game in the bottom fifth inning, however the Bobcats offense was unable to generate any runs, falling 17-1. 

Up next, the Bobcats head to Mount Pleasant, S.C. Feb. 21-23 for the 2025 Low Country Classic hosted by College of Charleston.
