FRISCO, Texas— The Ohio football program (8-4, 6-2 MAC) accepted an invitation to play in the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl against the UNLV Rebels (10-3, 6-2 MWC) on Tuesday, Dec. 23. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. ET on ESPN at the Ford Center at the Star in Frisco, Texas.
"We're excited to have two great teams coming to Frisco as this should make for an exciting matchup," said Sean Johnson, Executive Director of the Scooter's Coffee Frisco Bowl. "We have two offensive-oriented teams, and our bowl is known for that, as it is the 2
nd highest scoring bowl game over the past 10 years."
This marks Ohio's seventh bowl appearance in nine years, becoming the first Mid-American Conference team to win six consecutive bowl games (Bahamas, Frisco, Potato, Arizona, Myrtle and Cure). The Bobcats finished the 2025 regular season 8-4 with a perfect 6-0 record on its home turf for the second straight season. The Bobcats became the first MAC team to earn bowl eligibility on Nov. 4, taking down rival Miami (Ohio) at home for their sixth win of the season. Ohio concluded its regular season on a high note, notching its second road victory of the season on Friday, Nov. 28 with a 31-26 win over the Buffalo Bulls.
Highlighted by redshirt senior running back
Sieh Bangura and graduate student offensive lineman
Davion Weatherspoon earning First Team honors, nine Bobcats snagged All-MAC accolades following the conclusion of the 2025 regular season. Notably, this marks the fourth consecutive season Ohio landed two or more Bobcats on All-MAC First Team. Bangura led the MAC in rushing yards (1,243), rushing touchdowns (14) and rushing yards per game (103.6). Bangura is the fifth Bobcat to surpass 3,000 career rushing yards and the fifth Bobcat to record multiple 1,000-yard seasons.
Ohio's most recent bowl appearance was one for the record books. Not only did the Bobcats clinch their sixth-consecutive bowl victory when they defeated Jacksonville State 30-27 in the 2024 StaffDNA Cure Bowl, but their first 11-win season in program history. Individually, graduate student quarterback and 2024 StaffDNA Cure Bowl MVP
Parker Navarro became the second quarterback in program history to log over 1,000 rushing yards in a single season (1,062), an accomplishment an Ohio quarterback hasn't claimed since Kareem Wilson (1996, 1,072 yds). Notably, he was the second Bobcat to run for over 1,000 yards in 2024, joining graduate student running back
Anthony Tyus III (Portage, Mich.), and he is the first quarterback in program history to record over 2,000 passing yards and 1,000 rushing yards in the same season. Additionally, graduate student wide receiver
Coleman Owen became Ohio's all-time single-season receiving yards leader and one of three Bobcats to log over 1,000 receiving yards in a single season.
This marks UNLV's first time in program history its appeared in bowl games in three consecutive seasons. The Rebels are led by junior quarterback Anthony Colandrea
, who was named Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year. Colandrea was also named First Team All-Mountain West, and is the first Rebel quarterback to earn such honors since College Football Hall of Famer Randall Cunningham in both 1983 and '84 in the Big West Conference.
The Rebels are coming off a 38-21 loss to Boise State in the Mountain West Championship, snapping their four-game win streak. Notably, Colandrea remains the only player in college football this season to throw for at least one touchdown and finish with at least 15 net rushing yards in every game this season.
