RADFORD, Va. – The Ohio women's basketball team (5-3, 0-0 MAC) defeated Radford (6-6, 0-0 BIG SOUTH) 72-67 on Saturday, Dec. 13.
Ohio shot 40.0 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc and 61.5 percent from the line. The team finished with 51 rebounds, 14 assists and seven steals.
Two Bobcats recorded double-doubles during the game. Graduate student
Elli Garnett (Golden, Colo.) led the team in rebounding a career-high 13 boards in addition to 14 points and one assist. Junior
Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) also recorded a double-double with 14 points, a career-high 12 rebounds and a career-high six assists.
Redshirt sophomore
Bella Ranallo matched her career high in scoring with a team-high 18 points. Ranallo finished 4-for-10 from the field, 3-for-4 from the arc and 7-for-8 from the line. She also added two steals, one rebound and one assist.
Ohio got off to a slow start in the first quarter. Junior
Asiah Baxter (Indianapolis, Ind.) got Ohio on the board with a layup with 7:41 left in the quarter. The Bobcats took a 9-8 lead off a made jumper by freshman
ReRe Jennings (Killeen, Texas). Radford went on a small scoring run, taking a 14-9 lead over Ohio with 2:22 left on the clock. At the end of the first quarter, the Highlanders led the Bobcats 16-12.
Ohio bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Radford 26-16. With 4:31 on the clock, the Bobcats only trailed the Highlanders 21-19. Ohio snatched the lead from Radford with 3:00 left in the quarter. For the remainder of the quarter, the two teams traded points back-and-forth. Two three pointers by redshirt sophomore
Monica Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) and a layup by McWhorter in the final two minutes gave Ohio a 38-32 lead over Radford heading into the locker room.
Radford battled Ohio in the third quarter in the hopes to retake the lead. The Highlanders outscored the Bobcats 15-10. Heading into the final quarter of the game, Ohio had a 48-47 lead over Radford.
The fourth was a competitive quarter for both teams. Ohio outscored Radford 24-20 while both teams grabbed 13 boards. The game came down to the wire with the Bobcats coming out on top, earning a 72-67 victory over the Highlanders.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Saint Louis on Saturday, Dec. 20 in the Convocation Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
