Ohio Women's Basketball Falls to Columbia on Sunday

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio women's basketball team (1-1, 0-0 MAC) fell to Columbia (2-0, 0-0 IVY) 92-74 in its home opener on Sunday, Nov. 9. 

Ohio shot 41.9 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from the arc and 61.1 percent from the line. The Bobcats finished with 24 rebounds, 14 assists, two blocks and eight steals. 

Redshirt sophomore Bella Ranallo (Lake Forest, Ill.) led the Bobcats in scoring with a career-high 18 points; shooting 7-for-11 from the field, 3-for-7 from the arc, and 1-for-2 from the line. Junior Asiah Baxter (Indianapolis, Ind.) scored a career-high 16 points. Baxter finished 6-for-7 from the field, 3-for-4 from the arc and 1-for-1 from the line. Graduate student Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded 10 points and recorded a team-high five rebounds and two blocks. 

Junior Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) led the team in assists with a total of four. Sophomore Danni Scully (Park Ridge, Ill.) and redshirt sophomore Monica Williams (Indianapolis, Ind.) led the team in steals with two each. 

Ohio got off to a good start with a 5-0 scoring run. However, Columbia fought back and was able to take a 12-11 lead with 3:00 left in the first quarter. The Lions maintained their lead and the Bobcats trailed 23-18 after the first quarter. 

With 4:39 left in the second quarter, Ohio trailed Columbia 34-27. Ohio came in within four points, trailing 38-34 with 2:30 to go. Despite the pressure from Ohio, Columbia maintained its lead over the Bobcats. Heading into the locker room, Columbia led Ohio 45-35. 

After three quarters of play, Columbia led Ohio 76-50. Ohio fought back in the fourth quarter but could not close the gap. Columbia went on to win the game 92-74. 

The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Morehead State in the Convo on Thursday, Nov. 13. Tip-off is set for 11 a.m. and will be available to watch on ESPN+.
