CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced Wrestler of the Week honors for the first week of competition on Tuesday, naming Ohio freshman
Carson Weber (Shorewood, Ill.) Wrestler of the Week for the MAC West Division.
Weber provided the highlight of the weekend for the Bobcats, taking home the title in the 149 lb. freshman/sophomore bracket at Virginia Tech's Southeast Open.
Weber began his day in the round of 16, defeating Presbyterian's Joseph Morris by a major decision, 12-3. Weber moved on to the quarterfinals, defeating Dallas Russell of Minion Training Center by decision, 4-0. In the semifinals, Weber defeated Taylor Smith of Noke Wrestling RTC by major decision, 12-1. Weber was dominant in the final, taking home a victory over Noke Wrestling RTC's Jackson Rowling by technical fall, 15-0 with 5:31 remaining.
The Bobcats will return to the mat on Saturday, when they host Morgan State at the Ohio Showcase. The meet will start at 5 p.m. and will be streamed on ESPN+.
