DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Ohio women's basketball team (3-3, 0-0 MAC) fell 64-59 in a close battle at Davidson (5-3, 0-0 A10) on Sunday, Nov. 30.
Ohio shot 37.5 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from the arc and 68.4 percent from the line. The Bobcats recorded 26 rebounds, seven assists, 10 steals and one block.
Redshirt sophomore
Bella Ranallo (Lake Forest, Ill.) led the team in scoring with 15 points; finishing 5-for-13 from the field, 3-for-6 from the arc and 2-for-5 from the line. Ranallo also added a team-high six rebounds and two assists.
Two other Bobcats, junior
Asiah Baxter (Indianapolis, Ind.) and graduate student
Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio), finished with double-figure points. Baxter recorded 13 points in addition to five rebounds and a team-high four steals. McWhorter tallied 10 points, three rebounds and the team's only block.
At 6:43 in the first quarter, McWhorter got Ohio on the board with a jumper. The two teams traded points throughout the second half of the first quarter. In the final minute, Ohio tied the game at 15-15 with a Ranallo layup. Ranallo followed it up with a jumper in the final two seconds of the quarter, After the first 10 minutes of play, Ohio led Davidson 17-15.
The second quarter was another close one with Davidson only outscoring Ohio, 18-14. With 5:31 left in the period, the Bobcats led the Wildcats 22-18. Davidson tied the game at 23-23 with 3:27 left in the quarter. The Wildcats then took a 30-28 lead with a minute left in the quarter. A three pointer by freshman
Vivienne Macheck (Embrach, Zürich) tied the game at 31-31 with under 30 seconds to go. A buzzer-beater jumper by Davidson gave the Wildcats a 33-31 lead heading into the locker room.
Davidson dominated the third quarter, outscoring Ohio 22-14. After three quarters of play, the Bobcats trailed the Wildcats 55-44.
Ohio battled in the fourth quarter, outscoring Davidson 14-9. After a three pointer by Ranallo, Ohio trailed Davidson 60-55 with 3:33 left in the game. The Bobcats were unable to catch up with the Wildcats. Ohio eventually fell to Davidson, 64-59.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host UIC on Friday, Dec. 5 in the Convocation Center. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on ESPN+.
