BOONE, N.C. – The Ohio Wrestling team (1-1) took part in the Mountaineer Invitational hosted by Appalachian State on Sunday. Five Bobcat wrestlers placed in their individual brackets.
 
Leading the way for the Bobcats was redshirt sophomore Derek Raike (Point Pleasant, W. Va.), who took home the title in the 157 lb. bracket. Raike began his day by defeating UT-Chattanooga's Alex Hutchcraft by first period forfeit. Raike moved through the quarterfinals with a 9-3 decision victory over NC State's Latrell Shaffer, recording two takedowns in the match. Raike took home another victory by decision in the semifinals, recording three takedowns on his way to a 11-5 defeat of Appalachian State's Kai O'Dell. Raike dominated the championship match, recording five takedowns to defeat Appalachian State's Jeremiah Price by major decision, 17-6.
 
Freshman Brayden Teunissen (Belvidere, Ill.) and redshirt junior Jack Lledo (Penn Valley, Pa.) took home third place in the 125 lb. and 165 lb. brackets, respectively.
 
Teunissen began his day in dominant fashion, defeating Presbyterian's Ethan York by technical fall, 19-3 4:09 in to the match. Teunissen then won his quarterfinal match by decision 7-4 over UT-Chattanooga's Easton Cooper, recording a crucial takedown in the third period to secure the victory. After a 9-2 decision loss in the semi-finals, Teunissen rebounded with a victory in the consolation semifinals, holding a 4-2 lead over Presbyterian's Dallas Canoyer before he was forced to forfeit 6:26 into the match. Teunissen faced UT-Chattanooga's Cooper again in the third place match, again recording a crucial third period takedown to seal a victory by decision, 4-1.
 
Lledo began his day with an 8-0 major decision victory over UNC's Luke Sipes, before a defeat in the quarter-finals moved him to the consolation bracket. Lledo caught fire from there, winning four straight matches to claim third place in the bracket. Lledo defeated Appalachian State's Noah Gonzales by major decision, 13-5, in his second consolation match before defeating another Mountaineer, Caleb Cady, by 8-4 decision in the consolation semifinals. Lledo recorded a takedown 1:31 into the third place match against NC State's Jason Kwaak before Kwaak was forced to retire, securing a third place finish for Lledo.
 
Additionally placing for the Bobcats were redshirt junior Paul Woo (Wheaton, Ill.) and Sophomore Evan Wingrove (Ringold, Georgia), who took fourth place in the 149 lb. and 197 lb. brackets, respectively.
 
The Bobcats will return to the mat December 5-6, when they travel to Las Vegas to take part in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
