
Ohio Women’s Soccer Draws in Toledo

Toledo, Ohio – The Ohio Women's Soccer Team (3-7-5, 1-3-4) traveled to Toledo, Ohio, to face off against MAC opponent Toledo (3-4-6, 0-3-4 MAC) on Sunday afternoon. The Bobcats were able to score an early goal from the foot of grad student Quintin Tostevin (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), but were unable to keep Toledo from finding the back of the net, ending the game tied 1-1 after 90 minutes of play.
Overall, Ohio outshot Toledo 15-7, with the Bobcats registering eight shots on goal compared to the Rockets' five. Each team had four corner opportunities.
Individually, Tostevin had the only goal for the Bobcats, with one shot and one shot on goal. Junior Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) led the offensive attack for the Bobcats with four shots and two shots on goal. Senior Scout Murray (Chicago, Ill.) attempted two shots, both of which were on goal. Seniors Maia Kaufman(Westerville, Ohio), Maia Soulis (Sylvania, Ohio), and Hailey Jeng (Centerville, Ohio), juniors Kate Robinson (Madison Heights, Mich.), Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.), and Rylee Mensel (Westerville, Ohio), and sophomore Iro Fakinou (Athens, Greece) all had shots for Ohio, with Kaufman, Robinson, and Fakinou having shots on goal.
Senior Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) started in net for the Bobcats, playing all 90 minutes. Sloma faced seven shots, making four saves, and letting up one goal.
Ohio looked to score early with Brooker attempting a shot in the third minute, but was denied by the Rocket keeper. Fakinou added another shot in the sixth minute, which also forced the Toledo keeper to make a save.
The early shots set the pace for the first half. The first five shots were tallied by Ohio, the first four of which were on goal and saved by Toledo. The momentum did not end there, as Ohio continued the offensive pressure.
The Bobcats kept the Rocket keeper busy with another shot on goal in the 13th by Brooker and Murray in the 16th minute. Brooker attempted another shot in the 21st minute, but was off target.
Ohio looked to score first in the 25th and 26th minutes, but could not get it past the Rocket Keeper.
Later in the 26th minute, Tostevin was able to place a ball into the back of the net off a corner from Robinson. Ohio took the 1-0 lead midway through the first half.
Brooker looked to extend the lead in the 28th minute but missed wide of the target. Burchett and Mensel added shots in the 39th and 44th minutes, but could not score to end the half.
After 45 minutes of play, the Bobcats led the Rockets 1-0. Ohio had 11 shots in the first half compared to Toledo's three.
Ohio added its first shot of the half in the 55th minute, but Burchett missed the opportunity high right. Soulis placed a shot on goal in the 57th minute, which forced the Rocket keeper to make a save.
In the 80th minute, Toledo was able to beat Sloma on a rebound to tie the game 1-1.
Robinson looked to make a late-game push to take the lead back in the 80th and 83rd minutes but was denied twice by the Toledo keeper.
Ohio was unable to score again in the half, leaving the score tied 1-1.
The Bobcats return to Athens, Ohio, on Thursday, Oct. 16th, to face top MAC opponent Buffalo. The match is set for 4 p.m. and can be watched on ESPN+.
