Ohio Volleyball to Conclude Nonconference Play with its Green & White Invitational

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (3-5, 0-0 MAC) returns to the Convo this weekend for its second home event of the season, the Green & White Invitational presented by Athens County Convention & Visitors Bureau. The invitational will take place on Friday, Sept. 20 and Saturday, Sept. 21.

Friday, Sept. 20:
Oakland vs. Liberty – 10:30 AM
Eastern Kentucky vs. Oakland – 4:30 PM
Ohio vs. Liberty – 6:30 PM

SCOUTING OHIO
The Bobcats currently have a 3-5 overall record heading into their Green & White Invitational. This will be Ohio's second home invitational of the season.

Last weekend, Ohio faced several formidable opponents during the SoCal Cup in Los Angeles, Calif. including nationally ranked Southern California. The Bobcats played 14 sets throughout the three matches, forcing LMU and Utah State to five sets. Ohio challenged nationally ranked USC with a win in the first set and tight competition throughout the match.

Ohio has one of the youngest teams in the league with several notable returners including junior Anna Kharchynska, sophomores Kam Hunt, Emily Waddell and senior Elizabeth Hoerlein. The Bobcats welcomes five newcomers: Sierra Evans, Olivia Gardner, Lexi Grissett, Bryan Janke and Darbi Ricketts.

OPPONENTS PREVIEW
The Bobcats will host three different teams in their Green & White Invitational; Liberty, Oakland and Eastern Kentucky (EKU).
LIBERTY
Liberty has a 4-5 overall record and is on a two-match losing streak heading into the weekend. The Flames' four wins include Navy, UC San Diego, ETSU and Ohio's MAC opponent, Akron. Liberty's five losses were to Iowa, Cornell, NC State, Virginia and West Virginia.

OAKLAND
Oakland is currently 3-6 heading into the Green & White Invitational. The Grizzlies have faced two of Ohio's MAC opponents this season, falling to Buffalo (1-3) and sweeping Eastern Michigan (3-0). Oakland also has wins over Hampton and Saint Francis. Most recently, the Grizzlies fell in four sets to Michigan (1-3).

EASTERN KENTUCKY
Eastern Kentucky currently has a 7-3 overall record and is on a two-match winning streak. Last weekend, EKU defeated Ohio's MAC opponent, Central Michigan, 3-2. The Colonels also have wins over Iona, Morehead State, Radford, Youngstown State, Southeast Missouri and Marshall. EKU's three losses were to Texas Tech, Boston College and Green Bay.
