LOS ANGELES – The Ohio volleyball team (3-3, 0-0 MAC) fell 3-2 (27-29, 25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 10-15) in a hard-fought battle at Loyola Marymount (5-2, 0-0 WCC) on Thursday, Sept. 12.
Sophomore
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) was an offensive force for the Bobcats. She tallied a career-high 27 kills and 47 total attacks. Hunt recorded a hitting percentage of .404, seven digs and 29.0 points. Senior
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) also made impactful contributions to Ohio's offense. Hoerlein finished with a hitting percentage of .450, 11 kills and 13.0 points. Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) added 10 kills, two solo blocks and 12.0 points.
Ohio had two setters make an impact on the court tonight. Junior
Chariti McKeller (Toledo, Ohio) and freshman
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) tallied 22 and 21 assists, respectively. Janke also finished with eight digs and two kills.
Defensively, sophomore
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ohio) and freshman
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Bobcats with a combined 23 digs. Ricketts also recorded eight kills and 9.5 points.
The match started with an extremely competitive first set. The teams went back-and-forth, but LMU was able to earn a close 29-27 win and gain an early 1-0 advantage.
The Bobcats rebounded from the loss in the first set with back-to-back wins in the second and third sets. Ohio won set two in a 25-21 decision and dominated LMU, 25-16, in set three.
LMU responded with a 25-21 win in set four, forcing a fifth set. In the final set, the teams traded points before LMU pulled away with a 15-10 win to win the match.
The Bobcats will be back in action against Southern California on Friday, Sept. 13 at 10 PM ET. The match will be available to watch on BIG+.
