Ohio Swim and Dive Named CSCAA Scholar All-American Team; Individual Scholar All-Americans

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team was named CSCAA Scholar All-American Teams, the organization announced. Along with the team recognition, four Bobcats were named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans.
 
Individually, freshman Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) was named First Team CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American, while sophomore Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) and junior Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) were named Second Team CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American
 
To qualify for this prestigious recognition, teams had to earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 during the Spring 2024 semester. Of the selected teams, an impressive 563 achieved a GPA of 3.30 or above.
 
The Bobcats finished the spring semester with a 3.56 team GPA. 
 
Szoke, an education major, earned a spot on the first team after qualifying for the 2024 NCAA Championships. Szoke became Ohio's first MAC champion in the 200-yard freestyle since 2004. Szoke was also a part of the 400-yard free relay and 800-yard free relay that set new program records at the MAC Championships. After earning a spot on the All-MAC First Team and was named MAC Freshman of the year, Szoke earned a trip to the NCAA championships, where she rebroke the school record for the 200-yard (1:45.87), 100-yard (48.04) and 50-yard (22.42) freestyles.
 
This is the third -straight year that Brust has earned a spot on the Individual Scholar All-American Second Team. The Mild-Moderate Education Needs Major was named First Team All-MAC following the season. In the 2024 MAC Championships, Brust was a member of the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard medley relay squads that both placed third, while both breaking the previous school record in the event. Individually, Brust placed fourth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.79, fourth in the 100 fly (52.24) and third in the 200 flay, finishing the race with a time of 1:38.46. Brust was also the Bobcats' nominee for the 2024 MAC Most Outstanding Senior Award and was named MAC Swimmer of the Week during the regular season. She was also named CSC Academic All-District and Academic All-MAC. 
 
This is the second time DiBetta, an Early Childhood Elementary Education major, has earned the honor. DiBetta was a two-time MAC Champions at this year's MAC Championships, winning the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.32 and the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:11.59 DiBetta's win in the 200 fly made her the first Bobcat to win the event since 2000. DiBetta was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay team and the 400-yard medley relay team that both placed third while setting the program record in both events. DiBetta also earned a spot on the All-MAC First Team and was named the MAC Female Scholar Athlete of the Week. DiBetta was also named Academic All-MAC and CSC Academic All-District. 
 
Strine, a Biological Studies major, earns a spot on the Individual Scholar All-American Second Team for the first time this season. Strine earned a spot on the All-MAC Second Team. At this year's MAC Championships, Strine placed fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:14.38. She also placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:01.60) and 13th in the 200 IM (2:03.63). Earlier in the season, Strine put together a solid performance against Akron in a dual meet, placing second in the 100-yard breaststroke and third in the 200-yard breaststroke. Strine was also named Academic All-MAC and CSC Academic All-District. 
 
To qualify for First-Team Scholar All-America, student-athletes must have earned a GPA of 3.5 or higher and participated in their national championship. Second-Team selections must have also earned a 3.5 GPA or higher and met a "B" time standard for the national championship or qualified for a diving zone qualification meet.
