HUNTINGTON, W. Va. – The Ohio baseball team (14-29, 9-15 MAC) fell at Marshall (16-32, 8-16 SBC) 7-4 on Wednesday, May 8.
Individually, graduate student Bryce Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) went 1-for-2 at the plate and recorded two RBIs. Junior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) led the team in runs with two. Fifth year Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) scored one run on one hit, and senior Cole Williams (Charlotte, N.C.) finished with one RBI and one run.
Freshman Ethan Stewart (Langsville, Ohio) got the start on the mound, only allowing two hits in 2.2 innings pitched. Junior Adam Beery (Ravenna, Ohio) pitched the following 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on two hits with three strikeouts and two batters walked.
Ohio was first on the board with one RBI in the top of the first for an early 1-0 advantage. After two scoreless innings, Marshall answered with a one run homerun. The Bobcats opened the sixth with two players in scoring position. Smith singled to left field and two Bobcats raced across home for a 3-1 lead.
Marshall scored five unanswered runs to take a 6-3 lead heading into the eighth inning. A sacrifice fly allowed Cauthron to score his second run of the day, setting the score at 6-4.
Marshall added one to their tally in the eighth, ultimately winning the game 7-4.
The Bobcats will be back in action Friday, May 10, to take on Miami for a weekend series. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
