ATHENS, Ohio —
The Ohio baseball team fell 11-8 to Northern Kentucky Tuesday (April 9) evening.

The Bobcats (8-20, 4-11 Mid-American Conference) kept the game close through the first few innings, and even grabbed the lead after a two-run home run from redshirt junior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) in the bottom of the second. However, the Norse (21-11) quickly eliminated the Bobcats' advantage in the top of the third on a fielder's choice.

Starting pitcher Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) exited the game after three innings. In his first collegiate start, the left-hander struck out one batter. Price was relieved by freshman Ethan Stewart (Langsville, Ohio), who made his first collegiate appearance Tuesday night. Stewart struck out one batter over one inning.

Ohio chipped away at Northern Kentucky's lead in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice fly from fifth year Alex Finney (Oxford, Mich.) and an RBI-single by senior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.). It tacked on another run in the bottom of the fifth when freshman Trae Cassidy (Northville, Mich.) scored on a wild pitch.

In attempt to combat the Norse's explosive offense, the Bobcats frequently switched pitchers through the last half of the game. The Bobcats threw redshirt junior Luke Borer (Perrysburg, Ohio) for one and two-thirds innings, then junior Adam Beery (Raveena, Ohio) for one and one-thirds innings, in which he struck out three batters. The final two innings of the game were split between redshirt junior Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill.) and junior Tyler Peck (Oak Creek, Wis.), who struck out two batters each.

The Bobcats clawed their way out of a deficit with two runs in the bottom of the seventh on a RBI pinch-hit fielder's choice by redshirt junior Blake Reed (Gahanna, Ohio) and a sacrifice fly from Dolan. However, the Norse found their way out of the inning after drawing a ground ball from freshman JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.)

Ohio's lone extra-base hit of the game belonged to graduate student Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.). Neuer's lead-off double in the bottom of the ninth helped Ohio's thwarted attempt at a comeback.

Redshirt junior AJ Rausch (Powell, Ohio) led the Bobcats at the plate with three hits and two walks. Cassidy and graduate student Bryce Smith also had two walks each.

Ohio will be back in action on Friday (April 12) against Eastern Michigan. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in Yipsilanti, Michigan.
