ATHENS, Ohio – It's Cherry Blossom Invitational week in Athens! Check out everything that's ahead for Ohio Athletics in this week's Paw Prints.

The Ohio track and field team is back in Athens this week for the 2024 Cherry Blossom Invitational on April 13 at Goldsberry Track. The event is set to start at 10 a.m. with field events, while track events are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. This year's invite will be streamed on ESPN+, with Senior Day ceremonies set to begin around 4:20 p.m. 

Select members of the team will also head to Azusa, Calif. April 11-13 for the 2024 Brian Clay Invitational at Cougar Athletic Stadium. The three-day event will be aired on FloTrack. 

The Bobcats are coming off the Jim Vargo Invite last Friday in Louisville, where the 4x100m relay team, comprised of junior Taja Booker, freshman Jordyn Baxter, sophomore Rhiea Gordon and graduate student Taniah Stephens, placed second with a time of 48.05. Individually, Gordon (12.22, PR) and Stephens (12.51) competed in the women's 100m, finishing in sixth and 12th place, respectively. Stephens also finished 12th (26.23) in the women's 200m.

Ohio baseball (8-19, 4-11 MAC) is back in action for four more games starting on Tuesday, April 9 when they stay in Athens to host Northern Kentucky (20-11). First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium and can be seen on ESPN+. Ohio then heads to Ypsilanti, Mich. for a three-game series against Eastern Michigan (12-18, 7-5 MAC). The Bobcats open the series on Friday, April 12 at 3 p.m., while game two on Saturday will begin at 1 p.m. The two teams wrap up the series on Sunday, April 14, with first pitch set for 2 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium. 

Ohio and NKU met on March 19 at NKU, with the Bobcats falling 18-13.

SOFTBALL

Ohio softball (20-18, 8-6 MAC) is back in action for one game this week after a successful week of MAC play last week. With Ohio on a MAC bye this week, Ohio will head to Columbus, Ohio for a midweek matchup with Ohio State (19-15) on Wednesday, April 10. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Buckeye Stadium and can be seen on BTN+. 

Ohio is coming off sweeps of Kent State and Northern Illinois last week, stretching their winning streak to seven games and securing 20 wins for the fourth-straight season. Catcher Emma Hoffner helped lead the Ohio softball team this week, sweeping Kent State and Northern Illinois to extend its winning streak to seven games. Overall, Hoffner hit .500 with seven hits in 14 at bats. she recorded two doubles, two home runs, scored four runs and registered seven RBI. Overall, Hoffner recorded a 1.071 slugging percentage, drew one walk and had a .563 on base percentage. In the field, she recorded 20 putouts, had four assists and threw out four runners trying to steal.

WOMEN'S GOLF
April 13-14 / at Lady Jaguar Invitational / Carmel, Ind. / Plum Creek Golf Club / All Day / Live Results

The Ohio women's golf team is back in action for their final tuneup before the Bobcats host the MAC Championships. This weekend, Ohio heads to Carmel, Ind. for the 2024 Lady Jaguar Invitational hosted by IUPUI and a Plum Creek Gold Club. The two-day event will begin on Saturday, April 13 with 36 holes, before wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, April 14 with 18 holes. 

Ohio is coming off a 10th-place finish at the the Golfweek AGT Intercollegiate last week.
