ATHENS, Ohio —
The Ohio baseball team fell 7-0 to Western Michigan Sunday (April 7) afternoon at Bob Wren Stadium.

Starting pitcher junior Blake Gaskey (Davenport, Iowa) battled through the first four innings to keep the game scoreless, however Western Michigan soon caught on to his tactics. Western Michigan got on the board first with a two-run home run and a single to right in the top of the fifth. Gaskey pitched through the first two outs of the top of the sixth before he was relieved.

"Blake early on had to work out of some damage. There was some traffic on the bases and he worked around it early. He gave our offense an opportunity to try to maybe get the lead, to get on top. We couldn't get into anything with the bats today," head coach Craig Moore said.

The Bobcats kept the Broncos at bay for two innings with the help of four strikeouts from senior Luke Olson (Granville, Ill.) before they put in junior Hudson Boncal (Corona, Ca.)

Ohio's offense tried to capitalize on Olson's clean innings, but it was unable to send a run across the plate.

Four Bobcats recorded a hit on Sunday: freshman JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.), senior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.), graduate student Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) and freshman Pauly Mancino (Westlake, Ohio). The Bobcats drew walks from the Broncos as well. Antle led the way with two, followed by Nelson, Mancino and graduate student Bryce Smith with one a piece.

Ohio will get a break from conference on Tuesday (April 9) when it will take on Northern Kentucky. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Bob Wren Stadium.

"We've got to stick together while we're going through this a little bit of a funk. That's what we're going to do as coaches is going to stay with our guys. We're going to work our older guys, our younger guys, to develop them to get better so that we can have a have a better second half of conference play," Moore said.
