PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – The Ohio Men's Golf Team wrapped up play today (Apr. 3) at the Golfweek Any Given Tuesday Intercollegiate at the True Blue Golf Course. The tournament was originally scheduled for a third round this afternoon, but it was canceled due to inclement weather. Ohio was led by sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.), helping the Bobcats finish in 17th at the tournament with a team score of 597 (+21).
The tournament, hosted by Golfweek, included two rounds with the course at a par 72 and 6,940 yards. 19 teams participated in the event, including the Bobcats: Long Island, Richmond, North Alabama, Marshall, Austin Peay, Valparaiso, Connecticut, Kansas City, Delaware, Southern Illinois, Xavier, Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin, James Madison, Jacksonville State, Denver, Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and South Carolina Upstate. Richmond took home the tournament title, combining for a team score of 570 (-6) across the two rounds.
In a tie for 38th, sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) was the top finisher for the Bobcats. Kates had rounds of 74 (+2) and 73 (+1) for a tournament score of 147 (+3). Kates was tied for the team lead in birdies with four.
Jnior Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio) and senior Jared DeVille (Loveland, Ohio) trailed behind Kates, tying for 66th. Daulton had rounds of 73 (+1) and 77 (+5) for a total score of 150 (+6) and was on pace to climb the leaderboard prior to the third round being canceled. Including his third round eagle, Daulton led the tournament with two across the three days.
DeVille had opposite rounds compared to Daulton, opening with a 77 (+5) and responding well with a 73 (+1) on the second day, finishing with the same overall score. Including the third round, DeVille led the Bobcats in pars with 32.
Behind Daulton and Deville, sophomore Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) placed in a tie for 78th. Trafford opened up his tournament with a score of 79 (+7), but bounced back the next day with a round of 73 (+1) to finish with a 152 (+8). Trafford also recorded an eagle in the canceled third round. Including his and Daulton's third round eagles, the Bobcats led the tournament with three.
Runding out the competitors for the Bobcats, junior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Canada) had scores of 77 (+5) and 79 (+7). His total score of 156 (+12) placed him in a tie for 91st overall.
The Bobcats will return to the course on April 15th, for the Highland Meadows Intercollegiate hosted by Bowling Green. The tournament, starting on the 15th and wrapping up on the 16th, will be hosted at Highland Meadows Country Club in Sylvania, Ohio.
