WESTFIELD, Ind. – The Ohio Men's Golf team wrapped up the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships this afternoon (Apr. 28). The Bobcats finished in ninth, led individually by senior Jack Neville (Terrace Park, Ohio) who placed 32nd.
The three round tournament, taking place at The Club at Chatham Hills, was won by Ball State who finished ten-under as a team. Individually, Toledo's Barend Botha took home the individual championship with a score of 11-under. Botha led the tournament after each of the three rounds.
The Bobcats finished the tournament with a total score of 918 (+54). Ohio finished the first day with a 299 (+11), before finishing the final two rounds with 308 (+20) and a final round of 311 (+23).
Neville was the Bobcats' top finisher, coming in 32nd. The senior had rounds of 73 (+1), 75 (+3), and 8- (+8) to finish with a total of 228 (+12). Neville was sixth out of all golfers with 14 birdies across the tournament. Hogan was one of three golfers to record an eagle for the Bobcats.
Just behind Neville, junior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Canada) finished his tournament in 35th. The junior had rounds of 76 (+6), 77 (+5), and 77 (+5), totalling a 230 for the weekend. Hogan also had one of three eagles for Ohio.
Placing one spot behind Hogan, sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) finished his weekend with a 231 (+14). The sophomore had rounds of 78 (+6), 76 (+4), and 77 (+5). Kates was strong at limiting mistakes over the three rounds, finishing with the most pars of the Bobcats.
In a tie for 38th, sophomore Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) completed his weekend with a score of 233 (+17). Rounds of 75 (+3), 81 (+9), and 77 (+5) helped the sophomore earn a top-40 finish.
Junior Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio) rounded out the golfers for Ohio. Daulton was the third Bobcat to pick up an eagle in the tournament, with rounds of 75 (+3), 80 (+8), and 80 (+8). Finishing in a tie for 41st, Daulton had a total score of 235 (+19).
The MAC Championships marked the end of the season for Ohio Men's Golf. The Bobcats will return all student-athletes for next year's fall season.
