ATHENS, Ohio — Redshirt junior linebacker Shay Taylor (Mount Perry, Ohio) talks about spring camp and how it feels to step into a leadership role this season with the Bobcats.Â
Â
On resuming practiceÂ
Â
Taylor: It feels great. It's been way too long since the bowl game. So we're really excited to be back and ready to get rolling.
Â
On carrying momentum into 2024Â
Â
Taylor: I think what we're really excited about [the momentum]. A lot of guys stepped up in the bowl game that people counted out, so it feels good to get some more reps in for spring ball.Â
Â
On stepping into a leadership role
Â
Taylor: I think it's awesome. Keye Thompson and Bryce Houston were great role models for that. So I think it will come naturally because of the leadership skills they have handed down to me. I'm very blessed that I was able to walk behind their torch and eventually lead a team that's ready.Â
Â
From Keye Thompson specifically, I want to mirror the aggression and fire he has and the emotion on the field. Off the field, Bryce Houston set an example in the way of picking up other guys, the younger guys, and really getting to teach them the playbook.Â
Â
I want to set the example on and off the field. That's something I take pride in.
Â
On his goalsÂ
Â
Taylor: I mean, obviously following in Bryce Houston's footsteps for [CFN] All-American and to be All-MAC First Team like both Keye and Bryce. But that all comes second to winning the MAC to be honest. I don't think I want anything less than winning a MAC Championship.Â
