CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Ohio football program's redshirt senior linebacker Michael Molnar earned the first Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Week award for the 2026 season following his performance during the Bobcats' Homecoming match up against the Central Michigan Chippewas (Oct. 10).
This is Molnar's second MAC Defensive Player of the Week nod, after he won the award last year for his performance against West Virginia in the 2025 season's home opener (Sept. 6).
Molnar delivered an all-around performance against Central Michigan, helping Ohio secure its 16th straight home win. Molnar tallied five tackles and stopped Central Michigan's passing attack, recording two sacks for 10 yards, one of which was a strip sack leading to a touchdown for a 24-0 lead in the second quarter. Central Michigan was driving the ball down the field in the third quarter before Molnar got his second sack of the game on fourth down to give Ohio the ball.
The Bobcats return to action when they head west to take on MAC newcomer Sacramento State. Kickoff in Sacramento is set for 10 p.m. EST, and the game can be seen on ESPN+.Â
