ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio softball team (15-18, 3-6 MAC) wrapped up the three-game series with Central Michigan (6-21, 3-3 MAC) on Saturday afternoon (March 30), defeating CMU, 7-3, inside the Ohio Softball Field.

Overall, Ohio scored seven runs on eight hits and committed two errors, while CMU scored three runs on five hits and committed three errors.

Individually, senior Yasmine Logan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, while junior Emma Hoffner (New Stanton, Pa.) had a double and two RBI. Freshman Brenna Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) hit a two-run home run, while senior Sydney Grein (Mokena, Ill.) hit a home run. Junior CiCi Keidel (Hilliard, Ohio) added a double, while senior Tori O'Brien (Mason, Ohio) added a hit and a run scored for the Bobcats.

In the circle, redshirt sophomore Skipp Miller (Bradford, Ohio) got the start, pitching seven innings, allowing three runs, none earned, while not walking a batter and striking out three.

CMU took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to an error and a single. Then with two outs in the top of the frame, lightening and heavy rain caused a 35-minute delay. After the game resumed, CMU added one more run on an RBI double, taking a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the frame. Ohio got a run back in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on a sacrifice fly from sophomore Shelby Westler (Marion, Ohio), cutting the CMU lead to 2-1 going to the second inning.

After a scoreless top of the second, Ohio tied the game at 2-2 on a one-out home run from Grein.

After a scoreless top of the third for CMU, Ohio took the lead in the bottom of the inning. After junior Lauren Yuhas (West Mifflin, Pa.) scored on a sacrifice bunt from Hoffner, Farmer crushed a two-run home run to right field, giving Ohio a 5-2 lead entering the fourth inning.

After a scoreless fourth inning from both teams, Ohio added on in the bottom of the fifth. After Logan led off with a single, she would score on an RBI double from Hoffner. Later in the inning, Hoffner scored after a single from sophomore Belle Hummel (Cincinnati, Ohio) and an error from the CMU leftfielder, giving Ohio a 7-2 lead going into the sixth inning.

CMU threatened in the top of the sixth inning, getting runners on second and third with two outs. However, the Ohio defense was able to get the last batter of the inning to fly out, keeping the Ohio's lead at 7-2 going into the bottom of the inning.

CMU got a run in the top of the seventh inning on a one-out RBI single. With a runner still on first, the Bobcats were able to get the final two outs on flyouts, securing the 7-3 win.

Up next, the Bobcats head to Kent State on Tuesday, April 2 for a doubleheader with the Flashes. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
