ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team has released its 2024 spring schedule, as announced by head coach Geoff Carlston on Saturday, March 2. Heading into spring competition, the program has several new team members including freshmen Bryn Janke, Darbi Ricketts and transfer freshman Olivia Gardner.
Â
SPRING NEWCOMERS
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) is a 2024 incoming freshman that graduated high school early to compete with the team in the spring. Janke is setter who previously attended Wisconsin Dells High School and played for FC Elite.
Â
"Bryn is one of those pure setters that can change how a team runs their offense single handedly," Carlston said. "She has also played at a very high level and is an absolute winner. Â She rides horses competitively as well, how cool is that?"
Â
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) is a 2024 incoming freshman that graduated early from Little Miami High School to compete with the team in the spring. Rickets is an outside hitter/defensive specialist who previously played for Ohio Premier Volleyball Club.
Â
"Darbi is a rare athlete that we fell in love with the first time we saw her play. She is one of the quickest learners I have ever coached and plays with a tenacity that you just don't see a lot," Carlston said. "She is already one of our leaders in the weight room where she impressed everyone her first week in the gym".
Â
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) is a freshman spring transfer from Loyola Chicago. Gardner is a middle blocker/opposite that previously attended Dakota High School and played for Legacy Volleyball Club.
Â
"Olivia has made an instant, positive impact on our team.  Transferring is challenging, and we are very protective who we bring into our program.  She was a Bobcat from day one because of her willingness and courage to trust the players and coaches," Carlston said. "Olivia is also an incredible athlete and fighter.  I believe she is going to make a significant impact in our conference right away."
Â
The Bobcats will start spring competition at home with a match versus Cincinnati on Saturday, March 23 at 12 p.m. The rest of Ohio's spring season will be spent on the road. Ohio will travel to Wright State at the beginning of April and will conclude its spring at Cleveland State. In the middle of those two matches, the Bobcats will head to KIVA, a club team in Louisville, where they will play multiple matches.
Â
