
Szoke Set for 2024 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships

ATHENS, Ga. – Freshman swimmer Zita Szoke is set to make her NCAA Championship debut this week when she heads to Athens, Ga. March 20-23 to compete in three events at the 2024 NCAA Swimming in Diving Championships. This year, the four-day event will take place inside Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgia.While there, Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) will compete in three events starting Thursday, March 21 in the 50-yard freestyle. She will be back in the pool for the 200-yard freestyle on Friday, March 22, before wrapping up the week on Saturday, March 23 with the 100-yard freestyle. Preliminary races are set to start at 10 a.m. ET each morning, with finals scheduled for 6 p.m. ET each evening.
Szoke is the first Ohio swimmer to earn an invitation to the NCAA Championships since Addison Ferguson in 2014. Szoke currently holds the 35th-fastest time in the NCAA in the 100-yard freestyle, after setting the school record in the event the Ohio State Last Chance Qualifier, swimming a 48.30 and setting a new Ohio school record in the event.
Szoke's time in the event comes after a phenomenal first Mid-American Conference Championships in Athens, Ohio. Szoke was crowned MAC Champion in the 200 free with a time of 1:46.01, making her the first MAC Champion in the event since 2004. She also set a new program record in the process.
In the 50 free, Szoke placed third with a time of 22.66 and in the 100 free, Szoke placed second with a time of 48.71. Szoke was also apart of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that placed third, the 200-yard freestyle relay that placed second, the 400-yard medley relay team that finished third and the 800-yard freestyle relay team that placed third and set a new program record with a time of 7:13.51
Szoke was named the MAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year and earned a spot on the All-MAC first Team.
ESPN+ will provide live digital coverage for preliminary and finals sessions Wednesday through Saturday. Tape-delayed coverage of the women's championships will be on ESPNU at 7 p.m. Eastern time, Wednesday, March 27.
