HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky. — The Ohio baseball team (7-11) fell this Tuesday (March 19) against Northern Kentucky (12-8) by a score of 13-18.
Individually, Freshman
JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) lead the team with two hits in three at bats, bringing in one RBI. Sophomore
Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) had two hits with three RBI, with one hit coming as a home run. Junior
Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had three RBIs as well off two hits. Junior
Taylor Gill was the third of three Bobcats to have three RBIs, pinch hitting in three runners in two at bats.
On the mound, Freshman
Trey Barkman (Kidron, Ohio) got the start, allowing five total runs (four earned). Graduate student
Carson Denham (Cape May Court House, N.J.) followed Barkman, throwing three innings and allowing four runs, all unearned. Senior
Luke Olson (Granville, Ill.) pitched the next four innings, allowing five runs and was tagged with the loss. Sophomore
Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) finished off the last two batters.
In the top of the first, Cauthron sacrificed in Nelson to take a 1-0 lead early on. Unfortunately for the Bobcats, Northern Kentucky would put up eight runs in the bottom of the first. But, the Bobcats kept on the pedal.
Coming off giving up eight runs in the bottom of the first, the Bobcats would score four in the top of the second. Nelson would fly out to lefr field, sacrificing freshman
Caleb Karll (Fitchburg, Wis.) in to score another run. Shortly after, Antle would send a three-run homer over the wall to cut the deficit to three and the Bobcats were back in the game.
The Bobcats would let up a run in the bottom of the second, but get it right back in the third on a fielding error. Northern Kentucky would again increase the lead to four, but Gill would send the second three-run homer of the game over the wall to pull the score to 9-10 in favor of the Norse. A Cauthron double would give the Bobcats their first lead of the game in the 7
th inning, sending two runners home to make a one-run lead. The lead would be doubled when graduate
Trenton Neuer (Nicholasville, Ky.) brought in a run
, and the score would sit at 12-10 in the top of the 7
th.
The Norse would go on a scoring run in the 7
th to the 8
th inning, scoring eight unanswered yet again, inflating the score to 12-18.
In the top of the 9
th, Finney would send a solo shot over the wall but it would not be enough to bring the Bobcats back into the game, falling by a score of 13-18.

The Bobcats will return to MAC play this Friday (Mar. 22) against the Chippewas of Central Michigan. It will be the first of three games in the weekend series. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. ET.
