SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – The Ohio Men's Golf Team returned to action at the Ross Collegiate at Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club. The Bobcats were led by Jack Neville, who helped Ohio placed in a tie for 11th overall in the tournament with a total score of 883 (+19).
The Ross Collegiate field included 16 teams, including four schools in the Mid-American Conference. Loyola Maryland placed first, shooting 854 (-10) as a team while the Bobcats finished third out of the MAC teams.
Leading the way for the Bobcats was senior Jack Neville (Terrace Park, Ohio), placing in a tie for 13th with a total of 215 (-1). Neville was extremely consistent over the three rounds, recording scores of 72 (E), 73 (+1), and a season best 70 (-2) in the final round. His T-13th finish is also the highest Neville has placed in a tournament this season.
Sophomore Carson Trafford (Dublin, Ohio) trailed behind Neville, placing in a tie for 20th. Neville had a strong tournament, with rounds of 74 (+2), 72 (E), and 72 (E). Trafford impressed by limiting mistakes during the tournament, leading all golfers with 39 pars.
Finishing in a tie for 47th, sophomore Will Kates (Centennial, Colo.) had a total score of 224 (+8) for the tournament. Kates opened the first day with rounds of 74 (+2) and 78 (+6). However, he bounced back in the third round, using an eagle and two birdies to propel him to a score of 72 (E).
With a total score of 234 (+18), junior Matt Daulton (Lebanon, Ohio) placed in a tie for 79th. Daulton opened his tournament with two rounds of 76 (+4) before finishing with an 82 (+10) in the final round.
Playing as Ohio's individual, senior Jared DeVille (Loveland, Ohio) finished in a tie for 90th. DeVille had rounds of 79 (+7), 75 (+3), and 85 (+13) to finish with 239 (+23) total strokes.
Rounding out the Ross Collegiate Classic for the Bobcats, junior Sam Hogan (Burlington, Canada) finished in a tie for 94th. Hogan had opening day rounds of 81 (+9), 87 (+15) before improving to a 74 (+2) to close out with a 242 (+26) for the tournament.
Ohio will return to action on the course on Sunday (Mar. 17) for The Indy at Boone's Trace National. The tournament, hosted by Eastern Kentucky, will be a one day affair in Richmond, Ky.
