Ohio Swim Breaks School Records on Opening Day of 2024 MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team opened competition at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships in Athens on Wednesday (Feb. 28), breaking several school records in the process. After the first day of competition, Ohio sits in third place with 64 points.
After the first day, Miami and Akron are tied for first with 74 points each.
In the first finals event of the championships, the 200-yard medley relay, the Ohio team of senior Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio), sophomore Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), senior Peyton Farrell (Beavercreek, Ohio) and senior Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed third with a time of 1:38.97. The time set a new school record for the 200-yard medley relay, breaking the previous record of 1:39.71 set in 2015.
In the 800-yard freestyle relay, the Ohio team of freshman Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary), senior Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio), junior Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) and graduate student McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) earned a third-place finishing, setting a new school record with a time of 7:11.43. The new time broke the old record of 7:13.51 set in 2009.
In the first leg of the 800-yard freestyle relay, Szoke set the Ohio record, with her leg time of 1:46.15, taking the record over from relay teammate Grau, who set it in 2022 with the old record of 1:47.43.
Up next, Ohio is back in action for the second day of the MAC Championships on Friday, Feb. 29. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m., with finals set to begin at 6 p.m.
