
Ohio Swim and Dive Wraps Up Day Two of 2024 MAC Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action for the second day of the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday (Feb. 29) in Athens. After two days of competition, the Bobcats sit in third place with 202 points.
Akron currently leads in the standings with 289.5 points, followed by Miami in second with 241.5 points.
The Bobcats opened the night in the 500-yard freestyle finals, with junior Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) finishing fourth overall with a time of 4:51.91.
In the 500-yard free consolation races, sophomore Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed first, ninth overall, with a time of 4:53.73, while senior Morgan Croaning (Carmel, Ind.) finished fourth, 12th overall, touching in with a time of 4:56.56.
In the 200-yard IM finals, senior Gabrielle Brust (Granville, Ohio) placed fourth overall with a time of 2:00.79, while graduate student McKenzie Grau (Mason, Ohio) placed sixth, touching in at 2:01.33.
In the 200-yard IM consolation race, sophomore Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) placed fourth, 12th overall, with a time of 2:03.27. Junior Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) finished in fifth, 13th overall, touching in with a time of 2:03.63.
In the 50 free finals, freshman Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) finished third, touching in with a time of 22.66. Earlier in the day, Szoke finishing the 50 free prelims with a time of 22.63, securing her NCAA B Cut. Senior Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) wrapped up the finals in fifth place with a time of 22.93.
In the 50 free consolation race, senior Meg Voigt (Bryan, Ohio) placed sixth, 14th overall, touching in with a time of 23.44.
In the final event of the night, the 400-yard medley relay, the Ohio team of senior Riley Bunstine (Alexandria, Ohio), sophomore Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Brust and Szoke placed third overall, finishing with a time of 3:37.02, setting another school record in the process.
In 1-meter diving consolation event, freshman Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placed second, 10thoverall, finishing with a score of 259.35.
Up next, The Bobcats are back in action for the third day of the 2024 MAC Championships on Friday (March 1). Prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m., with finals to follow at 6 p.m.
