ATHENS, Ohio — Ohio baseball dropped the first game of a three-game series against Campbell 8-2 on Friday (Feb. 23) at Jim Perry Stadium.
Ohio tarnished Campbell's shutout in the top of the ninth inning on a two-out single by junior Jackson Cauthron (Murfreesboro, Tenn.). Cauthorn scored Senior Clay Cutter (Centennial, Colo.) and redshirt junior Nick Dolan (Pittsburgh, Pa.) who both walked.
Two Bobcats had a multi-hit game on Friday. Junior Taylor Gill (Orem, Utah) and freshman JR Nelson (Vernon Hills, Ill.) both recorded two hits against the Camels. Other Bobcats to record a hit were Cauthron, senior Gideon Antle (Licking, Mo.) and senior Cole Williams (Charlotte, N.C.)
Senior Luke Olson (Granville, Ill.) got the start for the Bobcats. He recorded three strikeouts and allowed five runs on three hits over two innings before redshirt junior Patrick Straub (Naperville, Ill.) took over. Straub recorded one strikeout over and allowed three runs on three hits during his two innings. The next two pitchers for the Bobcats, junior Adam Beery (Raveena, Ohio) and sophomore Landon Price (Middle Point, Ohio) did not allow a single hit over their respective two-inning stints. Beery recorded two strikeouts and Price recorded four.
Ohio will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 24) against Campbell. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. at Jim Perry Stadium.
