CHICAGO – The Ohio women's basketball team (2-7, 0-0 MAC) fell at UIC (3-6, 0-0 MVC) 91-45 on Sunday, Dec. 22.
Graduate student Aliah McWhorter (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the team with a career-high nine points. Senior Kennedi Watkins (Ballwin, Mo.) also scored seven points for the Bobcats.
Sophomore Asiah Baxter (Indianapolis, Ind.) grabbed a team-high five rebounds while sophomore Bailey Tabeling (Seymour, Ind.) finished with a team-high three assists. Tabeling, Watkins and junior Cassidy Lafler (Dublin, Ohio) led the team with two steals each.
Ohio kicked off the game with a lot of intensity, especially on defense. However, the Bobcats' intensity dimmed halfway through the quarter. Several turnovers and a significant scoring drought allowed UIC to take a 14-8 lead with a 11-0 run. Ohio's scoring drought was ended by a Watkins layup assisted by Tabeling. The Flames commanded play for the rest of the quarter and led the Bobcats, 27-14, heading into the second.
The second quarter did not feature a lot of offensive success for Ohio. UIC continued to dominate rebounding, limiting the Bobcats' second chance opportunities to score. The Flames also found a lot of success with their shooting at the arc, allowing them to lead Ohio 47-24 at the half.
At the end of the third quarter, Ohio trailed UIC 71-36. The Flames went on to win the game, 91-45.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Georgia on Saturday, Dec. 28. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. ET and the game will be available to watch on SEC+.
