ATHENS, Ohio – In its last home match of the season, the Ohio volleyball team (14-13, 10-6 MAC) swept Buffalo (14-15, 10-6 MAC) 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-20) on Saturday, Nov. 9.
Prior to the match, Ohio recognized its two members of the senior class,
Makenna Schafer (Huron, Ohio) and
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio).
Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led the Bobcats' offense with a team-high 18 kills and 20.5 points. Sophomores
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) and
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) finished with a combined 16 kills and 18.0 points. Schafer also added five kills and six points.
Freshman
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) led the team in assists with 34 total, as well as 12 digs. On defense, Hoerlein recorded a team-high six blocks. Kharchynska added four blocks for the Bobcats.
The Bobcats won in a close first set. At the start, Buffalo was trailing by almost double but started to catch up at the end. Ohio came out on top, edging Buffalo 25-23.
The second set started off with the two teams trading points. The Bobcats pulled away from the Bulls with several scoring runs. Ohio increased its lead to 2-0 with a 25-19 win in the second.
With the win in sight, Ohio was challenged by Buffalo throughout most of the third set. A five-point scoring at the end of the set secured the 25-20 win for the Bobcats and helped them achieve the 3-0 sweep over Buffalo.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Bowling Green on Friday, Nov. 15. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. ET.
