ATHENS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio field hockey team (7-10) opens play Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 6) at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament when they play No. 3 Miami (10-7) in a quarterfinal matchup. First touch is set for 2:30 p.m. at the Miami Field Hockey Complex in Oxford, Ohio.
The winner of the matchup will advance to face No. 2 App State at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 7.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Miami leads to all-time series with the Bobcats, 50-30. In the MAC Tournament, Ohio and the RedHawks have met in the MAC Tournament 14 times, with Miami leading the series, 8-6.
The Bobcats have not defeated the RedHawks in the last 14 matchups, with the last win coming on Oct. 23, 2013, in Athens.
LAST MEETING
Ohio and Miami met earlier this season in Oxford, with the RedHawks winning, 5-1.
Overall, Ohio was outshot 28 to five, with 22 shots on goal for Miami and two for Ohio. Freshman midfielder
Marie De Grande (Groot-Bijgaarden, Belgium) scored Ohio's lone goal, her first of the season.
Despite a tough loss, starting goalie graduate student
Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) made 16 saves, with six of them coming in the fourth quarter alone.
ALL MAC
Three members of the Ohio field hockey team earned All-MAC honors for their play this season, the league announce on Nov. 5.
Junior back
Anouk Plaehn (Hanover, Germany) was named All-MAC First Team, while senior midfielder
Bodhi Littlefield (Oakland, Maine) was named to the All-MAC Second Team. De Grande earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
SCOUTING OHIO
Ohio finished the regular season with a 7-10 overall record and a 3-5 mark in MAC play. Ohio's 3-2 win over Central Michigan on Nov. 1, helped secure a spot for the Bobcats in this year's tournament.
This season, Ohio scored 26 goals for a 1.53 goals per game average and a .178 shot percentage.
Junior
Sasha Dikotla (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Plaehn led Ohio in scoring this season. Both Bobcats finished the year with five goals, and one assist for 11 points. Plaehn recorded four game-winning goals, while Dikotla added one.
Littlefield was next, adding four goals and two assists for 10 points, while sophomore
Natalie LaFleur (Fredericksburg, Va.) scored three goals and had one assists for seven points, with senior
Noa Desmaretz (Antwerp, Belgium) added three goals for six points.
In goal, Lotze played in all 17 games, making 16 starts. The keeper made 99 saves in 967.59 minutes for a .707 save percentage.
SCOUTING MIAMI
Miami enters the MAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed after winning a share of the MAC regular season title, which was split three ways with Miami, James Madison and App State. The RedHawks finished the season with a 10-7 record and a 7-1 mark in conference play.
Miami scored 37 goals this season, while recording a 2.18 goals per game average. The RedHawks also averaged 14.4 shots a game, while the defense helped opponents to 24 goals and a 1.41 goals per game average.
Miami earned several MAC Postseason Honors, with senior back Berta Mata named Defensive Player of the Year and freshman forward Henriette Schlueter named Freshman of the Year. Graduate student midfielder Claudia Negrete Garcia and Schlueter were named First Team All-MAC, while senior midfielder Carlie Servis was named Second Team All-MAC. Schlueter also earned a spot on the All-Freshman Team.
Negrete Garcia led Miami offensively with 11 goals, one assist and 23 points, while Schlueter scored seven goals and added five assists for 19 points. Servis led Miami in assists with 14 and added two goals for 18 points, while Mata recorded 10 assists, two goals and 16 points.
In goal, junior Nicky. Sjouken started all 17 matches, allowing 24 goals for 1.37 goals against average, while recording 49 saves for a .671 save percentage.

With a win, Ohio would advance to the MAC Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 7 to take on No. 2 App State at 2:30 p.m.
