No. 3 Ohio Soccer Downs No. 6 Bowling Green in MAC Quarterfinals, 1-0

ATHENS, Ohio. --
 The No. 3-seeded Ohio soccer team (11-4-4) opened play at the 2024 Mid-American Conference Tournament Sunday afternoon (Nov. 3), defeating No. 6 Bowling Green (7-7-4), 1-0, in the quarterfinals at Chessa Field. The Bobcats now head to Kalamazoo, Mich. to take on No. 2 Buffalo on Thursday, Nov. 7 at 11 a.m.ET on ESPN+. 
 
Overall, Bowling Green outshot Ohio 6-3, with three attempts on goal, compared to the Bobcats' two. Both teams drew five corner kicks in the matchup. 
 
Individually, junior Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio) scored the Bobcats lone goal, capitalizing on a well-placed assist from graduate student Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio). Sophomore Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) also contributed  a shot on goal for the Bobcats. 
 
In goal, junior Celeste Sloma, (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes and made two saves in her 10th shutout of the season. . 

Ohio, capitalizing on their home advantage early on, when in the 14th minute Deevers found the back of the net, scoring with an assist from Pruss, and giving Ohio an early 1-0 lead that they held entering halftime. 

At the half, Bowling Green outshot Ohio, 2-1, with the Bobcats recording one shot on goal. 

In the second half, the Ohio defense continued to hold steady, keeping BGSU from finding the equalizer and securing the 1-0 victory. 

The Bobcats will be back in action as they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. on Thursday, (Nov. 7) to take on No. 2 Buffalo in the MAC Semifinals. First touch set for 11 a.m. ET and can be seen on ESPN+.
