
Ohio Swim and Dive in Second After Day One of TYR ’85 Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action on Friday (Nov. 22) for the first day of the TYR '85 Invite hosted by Liberty. After day one, Ohio sits in second place with 878.5 points.
The Bobcats opened the night off in the 4x50 yard freestyle relay, where the Ohio 'A' team of sophomore Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary), graduate student Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.), freshman Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) and sophomore Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) placed first with a time of 1:31.53.
In the 500 free, senior Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed first, touching in with a time of 4:51.17. Junior Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) finished seventh (5:00.94), while junior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) finished eighth with a time of 5:02.62.
In the 200-yard IM, junior Morgan Brown (Roanoke, Ind.) placed fifth in 2:05.01, followed by junior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) in sixth (2:05.96) and senior Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.) in eighth with a time of 2:06.43.
In the 50 free, Szoke placed first, touching in with a time of 22.72, while Dunigan finished third (22.89), Claypoole in fifth (23.84) and Buroker in seventh with a time of 23.89.
In the 4x100 yard medley relay, the Ohio 'A' team of junior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn), junior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), Szoke and Dunigan placed second, touching in with a time of 3:40.34.
In diving, sophomore Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placed first in the 3-meter event, finishing with a score of 305.50. Senior Sophie Cooper (Milford, Ohio) placed fifth (235.55) and sophomore Stephanie Balthaser (Delaware, Ohio) placed sixth with a score of 226.80.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Nov. 23 for the second day of the TYR '85 Invite. Prelims are set to begin at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled for 6 p.m.
