Ohio Swim and Dive Sits in Second After Day Two of TYR ’85 Invite

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Ohio swimming and diving team returned to action on Saturday (Nov. 22) for the second day of the 2024 TYR '85 Invite hosted by Liberty. The Bobcats concluded day two in second place with 2,014 points.
Ohio opened the day in the 4x50 yard medley relay, with the 'A' team of junior Allison Schrank (Blaine, Minn.), junior Casadie DiBetta (St. Clairsville, Ohio), freshman Jordan Claypoole (Parkersburg, W. Va.) and sophomore Zita Szoke (Hodmezovasarhely, Hungary) placed second with a time of 1:40.35. The 'B' team of freshman Leah Guess (Hartville, Ohio) senior Julia Strine (Shippensburg, Pa.), freshman Darby Murlin (Shaker Heights, Ohio) and graduate student Caroline Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa.) placed third, touching in with a time of 1:42.88.
In the 100-yard fly, Claypoole placed second with a time of 55.06, while junior Anna McGrath (Lewis Center, Ohio) placed fourth, touching in with a time of 57.05.
In the 400 IM, senior Gabrielle McKee (Gilbertsville, Pa.) placed first with a time of 4:17.65, followed by junior Emily Ellsworth (Westerville, Ohio) who placed third with a time of 4:22.81. Junior Morgan Brown (Roanoke, Ind.) finished sixth overall, finishing the race with a time of 4:25.86.
Szoke picked up a first-place finish in the 200 free, finishing the race with a time of 1:46.54, while Dunigan finished fifth overall with a time of 1:52.40.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, DiBetta placed second with a time of 1:00.66, followed by senior Edie Sawyer (Cranberry Township, Pa.) in third (1:01.89), Strine in fourth (1:02.62) and Ellsworth in seventh with a time of 1:03.48.
Schrank picked up a second-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 55.51. Meanwhile, Guess place fourth (56.85), freshman Sofia Matern (Cincinnati, Ohio) in sixth (57.37) and sophomore Melanie Schweikert (Maineville, Ohio) in seventh with a time of 57.61.
In the 1-meter dive, sophomore Astrid Pichardo (Guanajuato, Mexico) placed second with a score of 261.65, while sophomore Savanna Bos (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished seventh with a score of 217.20.
In the final event of the night, the 4x200 freestyle relay, the Ohio 'A' squad of McGrath, Claypoole, sophomore Katie Buroker (Zionsville, Ind.) and junior Peyton Binns (Hudson, Ohio) placed third with a time of 7:35.44.
The Bobcats wrap up the 2024 TYR '85 Invite on Sunday, Nov. 24 with prelims set to start at 10 a.m., with finals scheduled for 5 p.m.
