ATHENS, Ohio. -- The Ohio soccer team (10-4-4, 4-3-3 MAC) traveled to Oxford, Ohio on Thursday afternoon (Oct. 31), for their last match of the regular season, falling to Miami (8-4-6, 4-3-4), 1-0.
Overall, Miami outshot Ohio 12-9, with six attempts on goal for the RedHawks, compared to the Bobcats' two . Miami also drew nine corner kicks, while Ohio drew one.
Individually, graduate student
Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio) and sophomore
Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) each recorded one shot on goal for the Bobcats.
In goal, junior
Celeste Sloma, (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes, allowing one goal, while making five saves.
In the first half, the Bobcats showcased a strong defensive performance, effectively keeping the RedHawks from scoring. However, Miami also held their own defensively, resulting in a 0-0 halftime score.
At halftime, Miami outshot Ohio 6-4, with the Bobcats recording one shots on goal.
Both teams continued to battle fiercely in the second half, however, in the 67th minute, Miami scored the first goal of the match, taking a 1-0 lead. The scoreboard remained unchanged for the rest of the game, sealing Miami's victory.
The Bobcats wrapped up the 2024 regular season and will begin their quest to repeat as MAC Champions starting Sunday, Nov. 3 in Athens. Complete information regarding seeding, opponent and gametime and complete bracket will be released later this evening.
