ATHENS, Ohio. -- The Ohio soccer team (9-3-4, 4-2-3 MAC) returned to Chessa Field on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 27), for their last home game of the regular season, dominating Central Michigan (5-7-4, 3-3-3), 3-0. With today's win, the Bobcats have officially clinched a spot in next week's Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Overall, Ohio outshot Central 17-7, with nine attempts on goal for the Bobcats, compared to the Chippewa's three. Ohio also drew eight corner kicks, while Central Michigan drew four.
Individually, junior
Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio) and sophomore
Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) recorded two shots on goal each, followed by sophomore
Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) who recorded two shots on goal, with both shots resulting in points for the Bobcats. Brooker's second goal was assisted by graduate student
Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio), who also recorded a shot on goal for Ohio, resulting in a goal with an assist from junior
Rayann Pruss (Perrysburg, Ohio). To round it out, freshman
Iro Fakinou (Athens, Greece) recorded one shot on goal.
In goal, junior
Celeste Sloma, (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes, and did not allow a goal, earning her ninth shutout of the season, while making two saves.
The Bobcats started the first half against the Chippewas with a strong footing, and in the third minute Brooker put a shot on goal with the ball soaring past the Central Michgan goal keeper, putting the Bobcats in a 1-0 lead to start the game. The demand for possession of the ball between Ohio and CMU soon became a tough battle for both teams, however in the 24th minute, the Bobcats struck again with a goal from Rea, with an assist from Pruss, putting the Bobcats up 2-0. The Bobcats held strong defensively and kept their lead going into the break.
At halftime, Ohio outshot Central Michigan, 9-3, with the Bobcats recording five shots on goal.
Going into the second half, Ohio was determined to hold their lead against CMU, with Brooker striking again in the 53rd minute, recording her second goal of the game with an assist from Rea, extending their lead 3-0. Ohio kept their rhythm against CMU to finish out the game, securing the 3-0 victory.
The Bobcats will be heading to Oxford, Ohio next week on Thursday (Oct. 31) for the 'Battle of the Bricks and the regular season finale. First touch against the RedHawks is set for 3 p.m.
