BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Ohio soccer team (9-3-4, 4-2-3 MAC) returned to action Thursday evening (Oct. 24), falling to Buffalo (10-1-5, 5-1-3), 2-0, in a Mid-American Conference battle.
Overall, Ohio was outshot 13-3, with five attempts on goal for the Bulls, compared to the Bobcats' three. Ohio also drew two corner kicks, while Buffalo drew one.
Individually, junior
Eve Berish (Hudson, Ohio), sophomore
Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) and sophomore
Ellie Greenwell (Park Hills, Ky.) all had one shot and one shot on goal for the Bobcats.
In goal, junior
Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) played all 90 minutes, allowing two goals and making three saves.
The Bobcats and Bulls battled in the first half, with neither team able to capitalize on offensive chances, sending the game to the half tied at 0-0.
At halftime, the Buffalo outshot Ohio 6-0.
The Bulls opened the second half pushing in the offensive zone, recording four-straight shots that forced a save from Sloma. The two teams continued to battle, with a shot from Berish coming in the 67
th minute, forcing a save from the UB keep and keeping the match knotted at 0-0.
Buffalo struck in the 75
th minute, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. The Bulls added on six minutes later, taking a 2-0 lead with under 10 minutes to go.
Brooker attempted the cut into the deficit in the 82
nd minute, however the attempt was saved. Both teams continued to fight down the stretch, however, Ohio was unable to get a goal on the board, falling 2-0.
The Bobcats return to Athens on Sunday, Oct. 27 when they host Central Michigan for their final home game of the regular season. First touch is set for 1 p.m. at Chessa Field and can be seen on ESPN+.
