ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (9-11, 5-4 MAC) defeated Kent State (1-18, 0-9 MAC) 3-1 (25-23, 25-13, 15-25, 25-19) on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
Sophomore
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) led Ohio's offense with 22 kills, 24.5 points and two aces in addition to 13 digs. Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) tallied 17 kills and 18.5 points, the second best offensive performance on the team. Senior
Makenna Schafer (Huron, Ohio) finished with a career-high seven kills in addition to seven points. Freshman
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) recorded a team-high 31 assists.
Sophomore
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) led the team with 20 digs while freshman
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) added 11 digs.
Ohio got off to a slow start in the first set. However, the Bobcats were able bounce back from being down five points early on and ended up winning the set, 25-23.
The second set was a much better showing for Ohio. An early seven point scoring run gave the Bobcats a good cushion for the rest of the set. At 21-12, Ohio went on a 5-1 scoring run to secure the set 25-13 and take a 2-0 lead over Kent State.
Kent State cut Ohio's lead to 2-1 with a 25-15 win in the third set.
The fourth and final set proved to be a tight one until Ohio took a strong 22-13 with a eight point scoring run. The Golden Flashes was unable to come back and the Bobcats went on to win the set, 25-19 and the match 3-1.
The Bobcats will be back in action at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. ET.
