YPSILANTI, Mich. – The Ohio volleyball team (10-12, 6-5 MAC) fell 3-2 in a five-set battle at Eastern Michigan (13-12, 7-4 MAC) on Saturday, Oct. 26.
Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led Ohio's offense with 23 kills and 24.0 points. Sophomore
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) finished with 13 kills and 15.5 points while graduate student
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) tallied 12 kills and 14.0 points. Freshman
Sierra Evans (Silver Spring, Md.) recorded a career-high eight kills in addition to 9.5 points.
Junior
Chariti McKeller (Toledo, Ohio) and freshman
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) combined for 54 total assists.
Hunt also led the team in digs with 14 total. Sophomore
Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) and freshman
Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a combined 22 digs. Defensively, Hoerlein tallied a team-high four block assists.
It was a tough battle for both teams since the first set of the match. Eastern Michigan took that initial set in extra points, 29-27. Ohio answered back by winning two back-to-back sets, 25-21 and 25-20. The Eagles tied the match with a 25-23 win in the fourth and forced a fifth set. Eastern Michigan ended up winning the final set in extra points, 17-15 and the match 3-2.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Central Michigan in the Convo on Friday, Nov. 1. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. ET.
