Ohio Volleyball Claims Battle of the Bricks Victory with 3-1 Win over Miami

ATHENS, Ohio – The Ohio volleyball team (8-11, 4-4 MAC) defeated Miami (OH) (7-13, 1-8 MAC) 3-1 (25-19, 26-24, 19-25, 25-23) to secure the Battle of the Bricks victory on Saturday, Oct. 19.
 
This victory marks the program's seventh-straight Battle of the Bricks win over rival Miami (OH).
 
Junior Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led Ohio's offense with 17 kills, 18.0 points and a .500 hitting percentage. Sophomore Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) was also a major offensive contributor, tallying 15 kills , two aces and 17.5 points. Graduate student Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) and sophomore Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) contributed seven kills and 8.5 points each. Freshman Sierra Evans (Silver Spring, Md.) tallied a career-high four kills.
 
Ohio's top two setters, junior Chariti McKeller (Toledo, Ohio) and freshman Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.), recorded 22 assists a piece. McKeller also had eight digs and Janke tallied five digs.
 
Defensively, freshman Darbi Ricketts (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore Kendall Hickey (Fishers, Ind.) combined for 25 digs.
 
The Bobcats gained an early 1-0 lead after winning the first set, 25-19. Ohio dominated most of the set with the help of Hunt who led the team with seven kills, 7.5 points and a .750 hitting percentage.
 
Ohio increased its lead to 2-0 after taking the second set, 26-24. The Bobcats led almost the entire set until Miami (OH) tied the set at 21-21. The two teams traded points before Ohio secured the set with three-straight points including two kills from Kharchynska.
 
Miami (OH) cut Ohio's lead to 2-1 with a 25-19 win in the third set.
 
Ohio went on to win the fourth set, 25-23 and took the match in a 3-1 decision.
 
The Bobcats will be back in action when they face Kent State on Tuesday, Oct. 22 in the Convo. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. ET.
