ATHENS, Ohio. - The Ohio soccer team (9-2-4, 4-1-3 MAC) returned to Chessa Field on Thursday (Oct. 17) falling to Toledo (6-6-3, 3-3-2 MAC), 1-0.
Ohio outshot Toledo 16-3, placing eight shots on target compared to Toledo's three.
Junior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes, making two saves, while the Bobcats earned four corner kicks.
Individually, sophomore Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) led the Bobcats recording three shots on goal. Followed by sophomore Anna Burchett (Prestonburg, Ky.) and junior Eve Berish (Hudson, Ohio) who each took two shots on goal, and junior Maia Kaufman (Westerville, Ohio) recorded one shot on goal.
The Bobcats started the match with a strong rhythm against the Rockets, with Brooker making two shots on goal, both saved by the Toledo keeper, Agnes Stenlund. In the 39th minute, Toledo took advantage of a defensive miscue, taking a 1-0 lead into halftime.
At the half, Ohio outshot Toledo 6-2, with Ohio taking three shots on goal.
In the second half, Toledo established a strong defense against Ohio, keeping a forceful line of players in front of the box, leaving the Bobcats limited chances to take a shot on goal. Ohio, while generating a number of chances, was unable to capitalize, falling to the Rockets, 1-0.
The Bobcats head east for their next match up against Buffalo on Thursday (Oct. 24) in Buffalo, N.Y. First kick is at 6 p.m., and can be watched on YouTube.
