ATHENS, Ohio -- The Ohio field hockey team (5-7, 2-3 MAC) fell 5-0 to Penn State on Sunday afternoon (Oct. 13).
Ohio was outshot 16-1, with the lone shot from the Bobcats coming off the stick of graduate student Meela Kopp (Louisville, Ky.) Penn State's offense was relentless, controlling play throughout the match and scoring five goals across four periods.
Starting goalkeeper Macy Lotze (Louisville, Ky.) faced a barrage of shots, finishing with one save. Despite her efforts, Penn State's attack proved too powerful. Penn State wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, as they netted the first goal early on in the match. The Nittany Lions doubled their lead, taking advantage into the second period. Ohio's lone offensive chance came soon after when Kopp fired a shot that went unsuccessful.
The Bobcats' defense held strong in the third quarter, but then Penn State added another goal in the fourth period to push the lead. The Nittany Lions sealed the victory with little action from the Bobcats in the last period.
"Our turnovers were our biggest struggle offensively," head coach Ali Johnstone said. "We made it a little too easy for them to score."
The Bobcats return to action on Sunday, Oct. 20 when they host Kent State. First touch is scheduled for noon at Pruitt Field.
