DEKALB, Ill. – The Ohio volleyball team (7-10, 3-3 MAC) swept Northern Illinois (3-13, 1-5 MAC) 3-0 (25-22, 27-25, 25-23) on Friday, Oct. 11.
Junior
Anna Kharchynska (Kyiv, Ukraine) led Ohio's offense with 14 kills and 19.5 points. Kharchynska recorded a .357 hitting percentage, three aces and five block assists. Graduate student
Elizabeth Hoerlein (Mason, Ohio) recorded an impressive career-high .800 hitting percentage with eight kills on 10 total attacks. In addition, Hoerlein tallied 10.0 points three blocks. Sophomore
Kam Hunt (Sylvania, Ohio) also tallied eight kills with 8.0 points and a .375 hitting percentage.
Sophomore
Olivia Gardner (Macomb, Mich.) was stellar on the net for Ohio, recording nine blocks total with two solo blocks and seven block assists. Gardner also tallied five kills and 10.5 points.
Freshman
Bryn Janke (Westfield, Wis.) tallied a team-high 20 assists.
Ohio kicked off the match with a 25-22 win in the first set.
The second set was a tight battle between the two teams, going into extra points. Ohio trailed NIU, 24-25, at set point before scoring three unanswered points to win the set 27-25.
Ohio trailed NIU for a good portion of the third set. At one point, the Huskies held a 20-15 lead over the Bobcats. However, a six-point scoring run swung the momentum back in Ohio's favor. The Bobcats went on to win the set 25-23, taking the match from NIU in three sets.
The Bobcats will be back in action when they host Ball State in the Convo on Friday, Oct. 18. The match is set to start at 6 p.m. ET.
