
Ohio Soccer Takes Down Eastern Michigan, 1-0

ATHENS, Ohio - The Ohio soccer team (8-1-4, 3-0-3 MAC) returned to Chessa Field on Thursday (Oct. 10) to face Mid-American Conference rival Eastern Michigan (5-4-4, 1-1-4 MAC), securing a 1-0 victory.
Ohio outshot the Eagles 11-4, with the Bobcats managing to place seven shots on target compared to Eastern Michigan's four.
Junior goalkeeper Celeste Sloma (Columbus, Ohio) played the full 90 minutes and did not allow a goal, while making four saves for her eighth shutout of the year.Â
Individually, graduate student Aubrey Rea (Akron, Ohio) contributed with a shot on goal that led to a goal for Ohio. Sophomore Jaimason Brooker (Powell, Ohio) and freshman Iro Fakinou (Athens, Greece) leach recorded two shots on goal, while graduate student Ella Deevers (Streetsboro, Ohio) and sophomore Anna Burchett (Prestonsburg, Ky.) each added a shot on net.
The match began as a tough battle, with both teams establishing a strong rhythm and preventing any shots on goal. However, in the 25th minute, Rea seized an opportunity, scoring to give Ohio a 1-0 lead early in the first half.
At the half, Ohio  outshot EMU 6-1, taking three corner kicks and recording five shots on target.
As the second half commenced, Ohio aimed to extend their lead, with Brooker attempting consecutive shots on goal. However, EMU's goalkeeper, Ella Holland, made both saves, keeping the score at 1-0. Despite continued efforts from both sides, strong defenses prevented any further goals, and the match concluded with Ohio maintaining their 1-0 advantage.
The Bobcats will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 when they head to Munice, Ind. to take on Ball State. First touch is set for 1 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+.
